The British Airways subsidiary company CityFlyer has confirmed that it will open a route between Barcelona and London City Airport on the 6th of May. From the 25th of April onwards, Barcelona’s airport will offer a daily new flight to New York (JFK). American Airlines is the airline that will operate the new service. The Canadian company Air Transat has started flying again its routes between Barcelona and Canada (Montreal and Toronto). The routes started operating again on April the 7th. From April 7th to the 4th of May there will be one flight per week. Later on, the frequencies will be increased to twice per week, one of them with continuity to Toronto. A third flight from the 19th of June onwards, will connect Barcelona and Toronto with a direct flight. The Barcelona Air Route Development Committee was created at the beginning of 2005 by the Town and County Planning and Public Works Department of the Generalitat – the Catalonian autonomous government, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the Barcelona City Council and Aena – Spanish Airports Manager – in order to promote the development of new intercontinental routes from Barcelona Airport.
