Barcelona is hosting 130th IATA Slots Conference in June 2012

Barcelona has been announced as city host for the IATA 130th Slots Conference during 14-16 June 2012. This is the first time that Barcelona will be the venue for an event of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The Slot Conference is a working conference. With nearly 1000 delegates, from over 200 airlines and representatives of over 60 schedules-facilitated or fully coordinated airports, this semi-annual meeting (June and November) is IATA’s largest event. The goal of the conference is for airlines and airports to obtain the slots that will give them the best possible schedule to offer their customers during next season.

As part of the scheduling process, the purpose of this voluntary assembly of both IATA and non-IATA airlines worldwide is to provide a forum for the allocation of slots at fully coordinated airports (Level 3), and for the reaching of consensus on the schedule adjustments necessary to conform to airport capacity limitations (Level 2).

Although the event is highly technical, many airlines and airports take the opportunity to hold strategic meetings, something which has always considered of great importance due the key role played by air transport sector in the economic development.

Barcelona, which is one of the most attractive and well regarded destinations in the world, will provide a very attractive framework for the IATA 130th Slots Conference and its delegates. The Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC), which has promoted the celebration of this conference in Barcelona, is sure that the city and its professionals will ensure the successful planning and execution of this major aviation industry event.Currently, IATA celebrates the 129th Slots Conference in Singapore (17-19 November 2011).
