On 28 March, Iberia will operate intercontinental flights from Barcelona to Miami and Sao Paulo. These routes will be fed by Vueling flights from other Spanish cities and other European markets. This operation will be extended to other members of the airline as American Airlines or British Airways.

The CEO of Vueling, Alex Cruz, said that after starting an interconnection operation of its own routes through Barcelona last July, the company begins a new phase of its project connecting Iberia’s intercontinental flights from Barcelona airport.

This year Vueling estimates reach between 175,000 and 200,000 passengers connecting from Barcelona Airport. In 2011 it is expected to reach one million passengers and between 500,000 and 800,000 Vueling to Vueling connections and between 100,000 and 200,000 connections between Vueling with other airlines.

The airline expects to close this year with a profit of between 60 and 70 million euros, despite the impact of the volcanic cloud from Iceland and the controllers’ air traffic conflict.
