The British Airways subsidiary company CityFlyer has confirmed that it will open a route between Barcelona and London City Airport on the 6th of May. The new air link will offer a daily flight that will connect both cities. This connection will be made using Avro RJ100 planes, medium airplanes with a capacity of 100 passengers. The flight will offer both business and economy class seats.
The operation is part of British Airways’ wider project of increasing their destination network from London City Airport. As well as the Barcelona air link, it will be establishing new routes to Amsterdam and Warsaw, as well as the route that already established with Nice in March.
The establishment of this new route with the centre of the English capital shows a favourable conjuncture for Barcelona, as it will have a direct connection with the business centre of the city of London. This will enable Barcelona to exploit new business opportunities given this better access to the city of the Thames. This new route will also raise the profile of Barcelona to the status it deserves, as a business, culture and high leisure.
