From the 25th of April onwards, Barcelona’s airport will offer a daily new flight to New York (JFK). American Airlines is the airline that will operate the new service. The route will be operated by a Boing 767-300 airplane, with a total capacity of 221 seats. 30 of those seats will be Business class seats, and will offer the latest developments in comfort, privacy and flexibility for the user.
The BARDC considers that the bet of American Airlines for El Prat is a new motive to continue working on the direct transcontinental network of Barcelona. Long range flights from Barcelona’s airport continues to be the main aim of the BARDC.
Apart from being a destination with a very high traffic volume by herself, New York (JFK) presents a high connection opportunity for passengers flying between Barcelona and other intercontinental places since it is a prime world traffic hub. Having direct flights between Barcelona and this airport opens the door to other destinations in the American market. The new American Airlines’ flight reinforces the connection already operated by Delta Airlines with this international airport. More than 750,000 passengers put the United States as Barcelona’s main intercontinental market. As a consequence, the build up of connections with this crucial market is a high priority for Catalonia.
