From the 25th of April onwards, Barcelona’s airport will offer a daily new flight to New York (JFK). American Airlines is the airline that will operate the new service. The Canadian company Air Transat has started flying again its routes between Barcelona and Canada (Montreal and Toronto). The routes started operating again on April the 7th. From April 7th to the 4th of May there will be one flight per week. Later on, the frequencies will be increased to twice per week, one of them with continuity to Toronto. A third flight from the 19th of June onwards, will connect Barcelona and Toronto with a direct flight. On the 16th of December, Aeroméxico will launch a new regular flight between Barcelona and México DF. The flight will operate with two weekly frequencies (Mondays and Saturdays) with a Boeing 767-200. This plane will have a capacity for 177 passengers (20 in business class and 157 in economy class). A new destination, Tangier, has been incorporated into Barcelona's international air routes. Two companies operate this route. The first to open it was RAM (Royal Air Maroc) and Clickair followed soon after. Related to these events the ARDC is preparing promotional actions to be performed in Tangier.
Soon, the details of a new air link between Barcelona and Mexico will be announced. The ARDC is organizing several supporting actions related to new route.
Soon (3rd of October) the "Nit de l'Aviació" (Aviation Night) will occur in Barcelona. This is one of the most important events in the calendar of the aeronautical sector of Catalonia, and summons a large and influential number of personalities of the sector. The ARDC plans to have an active participation in the event.
The ARDC, in a joint venture with the Generalitat, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and CLASA, organizes a cargo seminar (9-12 October) in Hong Kong. This event is prepared together with Cargolux. Cargolux operates a bi-weekly route between Barcelona and Hong Kong. Additionally, the business bridge delegates will travel to Shenzen to meet with representatives of Jade Cargo, another airline that operates a direct route to Barcelona. Finally, there is an additional extension covering a stay in Japan to meet with some Japanese airlines. The target of the later meetings is to analyze the possibilities of a Catalonia - Japan direct flight.
The "Routes" international forum is the major meeting point for airlines and airports. This year Routes takes place in Stockholm (23-26 September). The ARDC and Aena representatives will be present at the event, and working together to present Barcelona to the airlines that do not fly there yet. The prevision is to meet more than 20 airlines.
