Barcelona, an airport for the new millennium

In 2006 Barcelona Airport registered a total of 30 million passengers, which ranks it as being ninth in transit volume compared with other European airports and with a growth rate of 11% compared with the previous year.

This means that, in 2006, Barcelona Airport took up fifth world ranking position for annual growth among the big world airports, and the first in Europe, ahead of airports such as Hong Kong or Madrid.

With regard to passenger traffic, 14% of the total passengers of the Barcelona Airport flew to international destinations (non European ones), with the largest amount travelling to the geographical regions of North and South America.

Over the last few years Barcelona has registered a very high growth in the Asiatic region, turning it into the third market in passenger volume.
